Niko Romito's eponymous restaurant, located on the 40th floor of the Bulgari Hotel in Tokyo's business district, offers a stunning backdrop for the chef's minimalist Italian creations. The space, designed by architects Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, features a fireplace lounge, window walls with views of the Imperial Palace, and a magnificent vaulted ceiling adorned with wood panelling.
The kitchen crafts modern Italian fare, from velvety vittelo tonnato to chitarra spaghetti topped with sea urchin and roasted garlic powder, complemented by an impressive wine selection from Italy and beyond. Dishes such as the succulent botani-ebi, afloat in a delicate broth dotted with pink pepper, parsley, and lemon oil, and the tender fillet of wagyu beef adorned with a swirl of caper sauce and grapes represent an exciting evolution for the restaurant, which opened in 2023.
The wine list celebrates Italian winemaking, complemented by a robust selection of French champagnes ranging from grand maisons to boutique producers. The 500-label collection also features wines from major New World wine-producing countries and a dedicated section highlighting the work of female enologists committed to producing organic wines in Italy.
Upstairs, the 45th-floor Il Bar dazzles with its expansive terrace and colourful mosaic, serving cocktails like the Negroni made with Campari Cask Tales and DiBaldo vermouth. With its stylish interior, thoughtful cuisine, and expertly crafted drinks, this is a wonderful destination for a leisurely lunch or special-occasion dinner.
