Star Wine List of the Year DACH – 25 May
On May 25 we will come to Vienna to celebrate the best wine lists of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the teams behind them. All restaurants and wine bars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are welcome to enter, free of charge.
Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be included to our 2023-2024 International tour, and this is the third time we are running it in Germany and Austria, and the second time for Switzerland. This event will celebrate all three countries combined. Star Wine List of the Year DACH will be held in Vienna on May 25, and media partner is the sommelier community Kalk & Kegel.
Entering our awards is free of charge and the ast day to enter was Sunday April 7, 2024.
We welcome entries from all restaurants and wine bars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Jury
The jury is now confirmed for the first ever combined Star Wine List of the Year competition for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the four-person panel will consist of:
Heidi Mäkinen, Master of Wine
Manu Rosier, Star Wine List ambassador in Berlin
Véronique Rivest, top Canadian sommelier
Reeze Choi, third Best Sommelier of the World 2023 (ASI)
Categories and criteria
Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.
The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: Vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.

INTERNATIONAL CATEGORIES:
• Grand Prix, presented by Premium Estates of Austria
The best list overall
• Best Long List
For wine lists with more than 600 references.
• Best Medium-Sized List
200-600 references.
• Best Short List
<200 references.
• Best Austrian Wine List outside Austria, presented by Austrian Wine
• Best Sparkling Wine List, presented by Nyetimber
• Best California Wine List, presented by Louis M. Martini
• Best By the Glass List
• Best Newcomer List, presented by DAOU
• Sustainable Wine List, presented by Lingua Franca
For the Sustainable Wine List category, not only the wine list is evaluated, but also the stated actions of the venue, as described through a questionnaire in the application.
The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2024, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
