If you find yourself visiting Marsaxlokk for its charming local market in this small fishing village, a stop at Tartarun is an absolute must. It's definitely one of my favourite restaurants on the island.

Run by the Schiavone family, James, the culinary talent behind the scenes, delights diners with a daily changing selection of simply cooked whole fish. These are expertly filleted tableside at the guéridon, adding a touch of theatre to your dining experience. In addition to these traditional offerings, James also presents more modern and imaginative seafood dishes. Don't miss out on the prawn carpaccio and the fish charcuterie, they are simply to die for!

On the front-of-house side, Stephen manages the dining room and oversees the beverage and wine list. With around 150 labels to choose from, the wine list is a treasure trove for wine enthusiasts. Tartarun boasts an impressive selection of grower Champagnes, along with a carefully curated range of French and Italian wines. The aim of their wine list is clear: to offer exceptional wines from niche producers that pair perfectly with seafood and fish dishes. If you decide to go during the weekend, it is recommended to book in advance.
