About Casa Carmela
At the end of the Malvarossa beach in the still undervalued, calm and friendly Malvarossa neighbourhood, you find Spain's perhaps most famous Paella restaurant. This is not a shy beach bar for locals and insiders, but a huge 200 plus seat restaurant where people from all over come to have great Paella. The many tourists don't stop the locals from coming, so you will find a great variety of characters eating here. From romantic foreign honeymooners to entire Spanish families with grandparents and grandkids together. The food may not be the most refined, but it's fresh and traditional, and you'll end up wanting to eat more despite eating kilo's of fried rice here. Save up an appetite before going, so why not walk (1 hour from the centre) or go by bike.
Though the traditional Paella and atmosphere are already enough to visit Casa Carmela, the wine list is even more so. All the big names are here and for great prices. Maybe you don't get yourself the best sommelier of the night, but if you know what you want, this is just like rolling into a warm bed. And even if you don't, there's a variety of wines by the glass, from uniform boring local Chardonnay through original, interesting dry PX to well-made traditional Albariño. The same goes for reds. But, for these prices, just grab a bottle and take it home if you don't finish it. Even the cava by the glass is a safe choice, but bottles…. just go for bottles.
