Anchor & Hope Wine List
About Anchor & Hope
Established in 2003, the Anchor + Hope is a pub with one of the city’s best loved dining rooms. Situated on The Cut in Waterloo, it has the Old and Young Vic theatres a mere stone’s throw away, as well as the rest of the Southbank’s culture on its doorstep. The food is hearty yet invariably impeccably cooked, inspired by traditional European regional cooking. A passion for real wine oozes from the list, with prices and styles mirroring the approach to food.
The list is printed on a simple page of A4 (though in tiny font to squeeze everything in!) and they don’t bother here with fancy glasses or pairing flights. This is a list of top quality, honest wines from artisanal growers. Wines by the glasses are priced to offer amazingly good value, while customers can also choose from carafes or from the 70-odd bottles. There’s a handful of cult orange and some interesting rosé; plus more than enough ‘smarter’ options from lusted after producers to do things properly. In a nutshell, authentic and over-performing.
