About Taxim

People love to talk about their favorite “hidden gem” or “hole-in-the-wall” wherein they’ve had some of their favorite dining experiences. For me, that’s Taxim. No, it’s not the new-kid-on-the-block, yes their website is a little wonky, but get a reservation (or roll the dice - it’s a neighborhood fave, so often packed) and make sure to sit on the rooftop deck for some of the best traditional Greek food you’ll ever have. We’re not talking about some downtown gyro stand or colorless “grandma’s moussaka” - from the house-made grilled sausages to the wild fennel-filled pastries, to the mastic-spiked ice cream, this is real Greek, and it is rustic, simple, and bloody delicious.

Their wine list demands commendation simply for its monumental offering of Greek and Macedonian wines, of all styles, price points, and levels of interest - including some of the best Retsina I’ve ever tasted (there are several to choose from, which is a delightful surprise). Finish with an array of various ouzo, brandies, and mastikas, and for heaven’s sake don’t skip dessert.

Charmingly rough-around-the-edges, decidedly low-key, and full of wonderful surprises, Taxim never ceases to be a favorite stop for unique food and one of the best Greek beverage programs in the country.
