Bonheur by Matt Abé Wine List
About Bonheur by Matt Abé
A Mayfair fine dining establishment with subtle nods to contemporary Australia in the décor, reflecting chef Matt Abé’s roots. And yes, this man can cook! After eight consecutive years maintaining three Michelin stars at another leading London restaurant, Matt’s food shows firm classical foundations, but now with carte blanche to explore, he is creating his own plates with confident freedom, making the most of new flavours and ingredients.
The wine list has a matching spirit of exploration. Emerging regions offer affordable discoveries, alongside the grand prices one would expect given the restaurant’s calibre and location. At over 550 wines strong, the list comfortably caters to every palate, remaining impressively robust in classic regions from both the Old and New Worlds, with a thoughtful scattering of older vintages throughout. The Alsace section is a particular highlight, offering a broad and terroir-driven selection. Supporting maps and well-chosen wine quotes for each section lend a sense of humanity, celebrating our shared love of wine. The list is masterfully curated – not only in what is included, but also how it is presented.
The overall vibe is one of upscale precision, with casual, personal touches woven throughout. Service flows effortlessly and warmly from the entire team, best appreciated from the back-wall booth, which offers a prime vantage point over the dining room.
For greater immersion, the six-seat chef’s table in the main restaurant, Petit Bonheur, is a standout experience. Each course is presented by the chef and kitchen team themselves, who step out to explain the dishes, their creative process, and their stories.
