Bessie’s Wine List
About Bessie’s
Taking over the site of a former industrial kitchen supply shop on Albion Street in Surry Hills, Bessie's – or Bessie's and Alma's, if you include the cocktail bar on the same site – was opened in late 2024 by the team behind the neighbourhood-famous Bar Copains, just 150 metres down the road.
The site hums with charm and already feels well lived in. It's a great vibe. The wine list – overseen by Group Sommelier Ishan Kaplish – is sharp and exciting. By the glass, it’s kept tight but ultimately tuned for discovery – something of a gateway to the equally snug but epic bottle selection. An enviable Champagne selection is hard to look past, but wines ordered by styles like “Round & Plush” and “Bright & Vibrant” make for compelling – if not difficult – decision making. Whatever takes your fancy, be sure to order a Moreton Bay Bug sandwich (or two) to go alongside it. Trust me.
