A “stadshotell” (city hotel) in Sweden usually means the old, classic hotel on the main square. The Stockholm Stadshotell may be housed in an old building, but it's brand new and tucked away in the Södermalm neighbourhood. Behind the new venture is the team behind Café Nizza, Babette and other Stockholm wine-lover favourites, aided by an investment from H&M's Karl-Johan Persson. This is their first hotel and, as the group's partner Jon Lacotte told us at the first viewing, it's been more work starting a hotel than all the restaurants put together. The result is a small, cosy yet luxurious h...

Experienced sommeliers Béatrice Becher and Jonas Sandberg opened the Stockholm wine bar they wanted to visit themselves in this eastern Södermalm part of town. The name plays on the French word for madness, Folie. As you'll see on the interior, it’s loosely related to Territoriet in Oslo. Folii is one of the best wine bars in town and they have won our wine list competition in the By the glass-category several times. There are tasty small dishes on the menu and if you are eager for a more full meal - drop in to their restaurant next door: Voisine.

French and Swedish classics are expertly cooked in a French way by Roger Lindberg and Ingela Persson at this cosy little Östermalm bistro. The ambiance is a mix between Paris and Östermalm and you'll see many regulars.

Restaurant Agnes has quickly become an established favourite among the wine and food lovers of the Kungsholmen hood in Stockholm (and in fact this is my neighbourhood favorite). Its heart is in southern Europe with many Spanish specialities. The service staff is experienced and friendly! Downstairs you will find both the wine cellar and a separate dining room. In summer, the terrace is a great place to have a bite and a glass of wine.

Adam/Albin is one of Stockholm’s hottest foodie-addresses. To go with the top notch-food and the great service, the wine list gives good Burgundy choices from village to Grand Cru along with a selection of wines from Bordeaux, California, Italy, Germany, Spain and Champagne.

The crew from the top and hip wine bar Folii at Södermalm has taken over the neighbouring space (hence the name voisine, neighbour in French) and opened a casual French bistro. The food is casual, French and well made. The ambiance in the little space is cosy and friendly.

Bouchon is the number one destination in Malmö if you crave food based on the traditional cuisine of Lyon, France. The keyword at Bouchon is rich. Rich in butter, meat, flavours and size. They offer both à la carte and a three-course menu but be sure not to miss out on their speciality, the pressed duck, a truly well served classic. Bring your second stomach and eat your heart out! A cosy and clean atmosphere with a small bar that hosts a generous list of stronger liquors and a smaller selection of cocktails.

Krakas Krog in Kräklingbo on the eastern side of Gotland, run by restaurateur Ulrika Karlsson, is a small gem on Sweden's restaurant scene. Krakas is open 8 June to 8 October, four days a week and with only one seating per night. The cuisine is nordic with a focus on the green. The wine list is mainly focused on Burgundy, but you can also find some great wines from the US, as well as Barolo, Barbaresco and more. Around 300 references and marks are modest, to say the least, so this is a place where you really can afford to treat yourself with some beautiful bottles. Krakas Krog also has some...

Volare is THE wine bar on Gotland, situated within the old town of Visby on the ground floor of a several centuries-old building, next to the cobbled street leading down towards the ocean harbour. Old Hanseatic history is very much present here, as you are seated next to massive stone pillars holding up a limewashed arched ceiling in what feels like an excellent location for storing wine barrels. As a guest, you receive highly personalised service and advice from the witty and skilful team that invests generous amounts of time and effort in making your experience great. The wine selection is...
