Norwegian sommelier Sander Johnsson, sommelier at Re-Naa in Stavanger, won the best sommelier of Nordics event. The Nordic sommelier championship 2022 was held in Copenhagen on Sunday Oct. 9, together with the Star Wine List of the Year Nordic final.

From a group of 10 sommeliers, two from each Nordic country, three finalists were qualified for the final including Emma Ziemann at restaurant Äng in Sweden. She was joined by both Norwegian candidates: Sander Johnsson at Re-Naa in Stavanger and Nikolai Svorte at Speilsalen, Britannia in Trondheim.

Instead of the multiple short missions on stage for the final that is customary for sommelier competitions, each finalist had to work a 25 minute lunch shift at the imaginary lunch restaurant Axelborg. Danish restaurateur and sommelier Christian Thorsholt Jacobsen acted as the restaurant manager and had several guests coming to act as guests. And with a tricky blind tasting in the middle of it.

All the sommelier finalists from the Nordic countries 2022:

Oddny Ingolfsdottir and Oliver Godt Dyrfjord from Iceland
Emma Ziemann and Martin Mortensen from Sweden.
Taneli Lehtonen and Antero Niemiaho from Finland.
Sander Johnsson and Nikolai Svorte from Norway.
Ketil Sauer and Johan Henrik Kirketerp-Møller from Denmark.
