Noble Rot Soho won the award for Best New Generation Bordeaux wine list in the 2023 Star Wine List of the Year UK with The Buyer. The award was presented at the Winemakers Club in London on Monday, 20 February 2023.

"We’ve always been big champions of Bordeaux. Everyone’s talking about new-wave growers in Burgundy and Loire, but there are some really good value gems to be found in Bordeaux as well," said Noble Rot Soho's Joshua Castle. "We have some UK-based suppliers bringing on some exciting names from that traditional region, so there is lots to be uncovered."

It’s a list that jury member Ruth Spivey, Star Wine List's UK Ambassador, described as a "generous and accessible range of Bordeaux, with superb value across the board and a real embrace of smaller new wave producers. It very much shows the region off to its full potential.”

The Best New Generation Bordeaux wine list is presented by Bordeaux Wines.

The silver medallists in this category were:

Maison Francois, London
Noble Rot Lambs Conduit, London
The Drapers Arms, London
The Terrace Rooms & Wine, Ventnor
Veraison Wines, London

Noble Rot Soho also won the Best By-the-Glass List.

About Noble Rot in Soho

Noble Rot Soho is the second venue from the team behind the wine magazine and Bloomsbury bar/restaurant of the same name, installed in the former home of the Gay Hussar, the iconic Soho restaurant loved by politicians and writers, established in 1953.

Noble Rot Soho.

There’s no bar space here, but rather two classy but cosy restaurant floors and a stylish private dining room up top. ‘Old Soho’ is reflected in the interior with proper wooden furniture; antique mirrored walls and vintage decanters line the length of the walls along a ceiling height shelf give full bistro glamour.

The first floor features wall-sized murals of Soho at night time, painted by the same artist responsible for the political cartoon portraits that lined the ground floor of Gay Hussar and a walk-in glass wine cellar.

The menu is a European bistro in style, with a few nods to the Hungarian Hussar classics – game stuffed cabbage leaves, beef shin goulash.

Noble Rot in Soho has been awarded a Star Wine List Red Star.
