About The Restaurant Pendolino
One of Sydney’s most active and admired proponents of Italian wine since it opened in 2008, The Restaurant Pendolino is nothing short of a city institution. Tucked away above George Street in the heritage-listed Strand Arcade, Pendolino – founded by food writer, restaurateur and olive oil expert Nino Zoccali – celebrates the very best of Italian flavours in its classically dimly-lit, timber-hued, white-tableclothed mode.
The wine list traverses the country by grape variety, Australian versions included: expect everything from crisp Langhe Riesling and textural Greco di Tufo, to detailed Verdicchio and aged Nebbiolo. The spotlight on Franciacorta is an apt touch, a smart selection proving the region’s ability to run up against Champagne (that said, the two pages of Champagne will make for some difficult decision making). If that’s not enough, the amari and grappa selections offer some compelling digestif options.
