About Roter Hahn
Located in the heart of the old town, the Roter Hahn has its finger firmly on the urban pulse. The hotel, which has been run by the Schmidt family since 1950, is now managed by Maximilian Schmidt Jr, who took over the business in 2020 together with his then fiancée and now wife Laura. They have brought a breath of fresh air to the gourmet restaurant with their individual style, bolstered by international experience. Modern and stylish yet warm and with a cosy ambience, the lunchtime menu offers classic and down-to-earth dishes that are nevertheless cooked to a very high standard. In the evening, however, an impressively inspired and creative fine dining programme is on offer. Many dishes show strong influences from the young Stockholm cooking legend Björn Frantzén, in whose Stockholm and Singapore restaurants Schmidt worked during his years of training and travelling. There is no doubt that Schmidt is one of the great talents in the country, and one to watch. And the Roter Hahn, with its informally cheerful atmosphere, charming service team and many exciting wines that stand up to the more adventurous culinary creations, is an all-round worthwhile destination, not only in the Regensburg region but further afield too. .
The wine list matches the food to perfection. With around 250 representations, it invites you to embark on a vineous journey. Everything is selected to match Schmidt’s cuisine, with a mix of grower Champagne, as well as small, local and international producers. You will find big names on the list too, but the focus is more on the discovery of something new. Indulge yourself!
