Restaurant Bagatelle Wine List

About Restaurant Bagatelle

Bagatelle is a sophisticated ‘wine and dine’ destination combining a modern, intimate interior with the classic elegance of white tablecloth service; both cosy and a bit formal. Located on the banks of the Mosel River on the boardwalk in Trier, it’s a perfect place to enjoy excellent food when visiting the Mosel wine region. Bagatelle only offers tasting menus, ranging from four to seven courses, which change with the availability of seasonal ingredients. The wine or non-alcoholic pairing options are a great way to experience the well-rounded palate of the sommelier, and the full experience is excellent, offering exceptional value in the world of fine dining.

The sommelier shares deep knowledge in a warm, welcoming way that feels like you are at your local bistro enjoying service from a long-trusted friend. The cellar list is very well appointed, at the highest international level. He works closely with local wineries to offer a unique selection of ‘can’t get anywhere else’ wines and hidden treasures – a tour de force of German viticulture, featuring an excellent selection of iconic Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer producers. The list encompasses all Prädikatswein levels alongside top dry and sparkling wines. Offering a compelling range of current and back vintages, every German region is well represented, showcasing everything from accessible entry-level bottles to prestigious top sites. The programme explores global classics and New World gems, with a selection of European wines including prestigious and under-the-radar producers from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Loire, Piedmont. The list also artfully integrates a few high-quality natural wines to keep it exciting and add flair to the wine pairings. The pricing is very fair (on both the pairing menu and cellar list), offering a chance to explore.

Bagatelle is great to enjoy a fancy dinner out or to explore the wines of Germany with an experienced guide. If you are over Riesling after a day spent tasting at local wineries then the rest of the list will impress as well. I would, however, recommend stopping here before exploring the wine region of the Mosel, as the sommelier has excellent tips and recommendations to share.
