Heldenplatz is one of a kind, serving great wines and food until 00:00. This is a place where the cities sommeliers go after work to drink and eat until the morning comes. The philharmonic is nearby, so booking a table even at 23:00 can be a good idea, as the restaurant is always full after the shows. The interior is clean and welcoming without fuss. The food is amazing, and chef Markus Hampp, who also happens to be one of the partners, is extremely talented. Everything on the seasonal menu is delicious and changes a few times a month. The other two partners, André Jean-Marie Nini and Julia...

Haerlin is the two Michelin star restaurant located inside the iconic Vier Jahreszeiten (Four Seasons) Hotel. This is a classic Hamburg place to go for celebrating special occasions. If you are part of the high society of Hamburg, you will have dinner here regularly. It has a fixed spot among the best-loved fine dining places in the city and a loyal following. It is the classic old school fancy, also with views of the Alster Lake. The Haerlin dining room is plush with regal fine linens, fancy Nymphenburg porcelain sculptures and a floor-to-ceiling glass display cellar. Christoph Rüffer has wo...

    Address: Am Kaiserkai 56, Hamburg

Located in the Hafen district, around the corner from the Elbphilharmonie, this wine restaurant has a great view over the harbour and a relaxed wine bar vibe. Kinfelts owners Maximilian Wilm (Best Sommelier Germany 2019) and Kirill Kinfelt (a local Michelin Star chef) wanted to create a fun, relaxed place to enjoy great wine. The food menu is “international casual fine dining” meaning you can get pasta, regional specialities and steaks. The menu changes often; however, the local favourites like truffle pasta keep a fixed spot on the otherwise very seasonal menu. The restaurant's design is fl...

    Address: Fontenay 10, Hamburg

The fine-dining restaurant Lakeside is located in The Fontenay Hotel by Alster Lake in the middle of downtown Hamburg. The restaurant has a very ambitious young chef, Julian Stowasser, and offers modern world cuisine with a strong focus on classic French cooking techniques. The food is elegant and beautiful. The Lakeside offers a fabulous view of the city through the large glass dining room at the top of the hotel. The interior is clean, light, modern and intimate with the focus being the fabulous view. The restaurant offers 4, 5 or 6-course menus with corresponding wine pairings. The locati...

    Address: Paul-Roosen-Straße 29, Hamburg

“Wine without a dress code” is the motto at this very relaxed wine bar that doubles as a wine shop. Stephanie Döring, the owner and the sommelier, is a great believer that wine is for everyone. She has set her wine bar up to be accessible for all; to teach people about wine in a non-pretentious way. More experienced wine drinkers come for the lesser-known funky stuff and the relaxed vibe. Novices often book a tasting or can ask the experienced staff for recommendations. They have a nice selection of charcuterie and cheese to enjoy with the wine. Weinladen is set up as a shop in the front, so...

    Address: Weidenallee 20, Hamburg

Witwenball is a wine restaurant located in the stylish alternative neighbourhood of Eimsbüttel. The owners, Julia and Axel Bode, have a fantastic sense of style; the interior is relaxed and bold, featuring fun wallpaper, plush blue and orange velvet chairs, walls of wine and a lovely bar in the middle of the dining room. The location is a local hangout, with neighbourhood folks having dinner or a glass of wine. This is a place where the guests on the terrace know the people that are walking by, and people stop for a chat. It is part of the community feeling in this neighbourhood. Witwenball...
