About Famelia
One of the most charming spots along Newtown’s buzzy Enmore Road strip, Famelia ticks all the neighbourhood wine bar boxes: cosy, atmospheric and welcoming, with top notch drinks and equally excellent food.
Established by owner and sommelier Amelia Birch in 2023, the concept for (cleverly-named) Famelia was to hybridise the wine bar and bottle shop models – choose a glass or flight from the printed menu or peruse the walls to select a bottle, either to take home or to sit down with and enjoy alongside a few snacking plates.
The wine list is strong and changes each month, reflecting Amelia’s love for smaller producers from Australia and abroad; the emphasis on promoting women-led and -made wineries is a triumph. There are also regular winemaker takeover events – keep an eye on the website or social pages, as they sell out quickly.
