Thierry Schwartz and Cyril Kocher are an inseparable duo, passionate about naturalness in both food and wine. Pioneers, they believed in natural wines long before they became trendy, and today they celebrate them daily with their guests. The menu is refined, with high-quality ingredients and a unique, sincere relationship with their producers. The wine cellar is filled with natural gems. Here, winemakers were friends of the house long before they gained fame and so Jurassians like Overnoy, Kagami, and Ganevat share the table with Alsace’s own natural wine world. Gilles Reeb, a fine connoisseur and passionate collector, excels equally in the cellar and the kitchen. The chef cooks with playfulness and care, and the daily specials are a treat (as the regulars well know). The foie gras-stuffed Fleischschnacka is to die for. And the business menu? A good excuse to work while opening some great wines. Reeb is also responsible for the wine cellar, which is simply bursting at the seams. Alsace is showcased like it rarely is elsewhere, with some vintages already a few decades old. And Burgundy flourishes on the tables of enthusiasts, with fair and attractive...

The Winstub is a traditional Alsatian brasserie, within La Chambard hotel – a must-visit for visitors to Kaysersberg, along with neighbouring winemakers. Alsatian specialties are executed by the Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) chef, the seasonally-changing options all using the same high-quality ingredients as the Michelin-starred restaurant next door. As the name “Winstub” would imply, wine takes centre stage here. The wine list is modern and easy to navigate, organised by grape variety. It features both established and up-and-coming winemakers of Alsace, with a focus on underappreciated v...

La Table d'Olivier Nasti is a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Kaysersberg’s Le Chambard hotel. Run by chef and owner Olivier Nasti for over 20 years, its high-level cuisine is deeply rooted in the region, displaying the technical mastery of a Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF). Wild game, both feathered and furred, is put centre stage, with an additional focus on local vegetables and freshwater fish (the smoked Rhine eel, in particular, has long earned acclaim). Sommelier Jean-Baptiste Klein, also a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, uses the wine list to share his vision. On the one hand, he is...

An Alsatian institution. All year round, people elbow their way in to sit down and taste the spirit of a true and authentic ‘winstub,’ where the bottles shine. Here, everyone becomes friends and happily devours Alsatian specialties. Owner Christophe Andt has now passed on his bottles (or at least some of them) and, more importantly, his corkscrew and incredible knowledge to his daughter Coralie. The wine cellar is extraordinarily rich, with vibrant, natural gems. Alsace and France stand out, and at absurdly low prices, too. There are timeless natural wines, with well-preserved old vintages f...

Eric Ispa and his wife Claire cultivate the family spirit of this Sundgauvian institution, an authentic and generous restaurant offering a wide choice of both dishes and wines. The atmosphere is warm, and its home cooking combines tradition and modernity without forgetting local specialties such as carpes frites. The cellar is abyssal – Eric is passionate about wine and lives literally to fill it, spending much of his free time tasting and negotiating allocations. It has everything: from Burgundian stalwarts to the young Alsatian guard, by way of legendary producers. Verticals, the new wave...

At the northern edge of Alsace, Carole and Pascal Bastian run a magnificent establishment where gastronomy shines. The Michelin-starred restaurant is comfortable and modern, with attentive and precise service. The cuisine is clear, contemporary, and very accessible. The wine list offers all the best appellations in Alsace and France at friendly prices. A particular focus, sometimes too rare in France, is placed on ageing certain bottles to offer them to clients at their peak. The added bonus? Crossing the border to taste a grand Pinot Noir from their German winemaker friends in the neighbou...

A legendary address, a unique family. The Haeberlin family and their team have been pampering guests for decades with a one-of-a-kind spirit. These are iconic dishes that you must taste at least once in your life: the frog-leg mousseline, the salmon soufflé, the truffle under ash. The wine cellar, boasting thousands of prestigious bottles, has been carefully tended to for 40 years by the legendary Serge Dubs, Best Sommelier in the World, who is now gradually handing over the keys to his treasure to Hervé Fleuriel and Frédéric Schaetzel. The food is hearty and generous, filling the dining room with the flavours of sauerkraut and Munster cheese. The small wine list, built with curiosity and patience by Maxime Heitz, mixes wines from the village with other Alsatian gems. Best Medium-sized List of the Year France, presented by Dreissigacker 2024
Two Romains for the price of one! The first, Romain Hertrich, is the head chef and delivers market-driven cuisine that is generous and bold. The second, Romain Lambert, is the sommelier – as the son of a sommelier, he is passionate about wine with a resume as extensive as his wine cellar, and always provides impeccable service to his customers. A house full of sincerity, humility, and pleasure. The wine list is precise and dynamic, every choice made with care and passion. The prices are fair, and you’ll spy a few rarer winemakers, too. Exceptional bottles at reasonable prices.

Best Long List of the Year France 2024
A landmark next to Colmar, in a small village that all the Alsacian wine lovers know. This family business includes a small pub where you can eat some specials, but if you want to eat at the restaurant, you'd better book in advance. The service is very attentive and traditional, just as the menu (the Chef is one of the best Choucroute specialists in the area). I always bring friends who are not from the region here, because I know we will be welcomed like home – we call it “Heimlisch”!

Talented chef and wine lover Nicolas Groell opened the restaurant in 2010 with his wife Noémie right in the center of Colmar. The cuisine is of the season and a special mention for the sauces! Address: 5 Rue de la 1E Armée, Riquewihr
When you live in Alsace, Riquewihr is not really the place you go, because it’s always crowded with tourists. The only reason I like to visit this typical village is to go dining at La Table du Gourmet. Here, the Brendel family has built one of the top spots for gastronomes. When entering this tiny house, you can instantly observe the poetic sense of this house; also on the plates, as they grow most of the fruits and vegetables they use in their garden, located next to the grand cru vineyard Schoenenbourg! You really have to experience ‘L’accord Parfait’, the seasonal menu, perfectly matched...

Address: 18 Rue Bellevue, Wingen-sur-Moder
The peace is guaranteed as you get to the small village of Wingen-sur-Moder, west of Strasbourg. The elements are gathered to make this a special surrounding for visitors. The owners have revived one of the last crystal houses, Lalique, and what better than a hotel-restaurant haut de gamme to show off the unique gems? The cuisine is precise and inventive. The cellar downstairs merits a special mention, and sometimes there are tastings there.
