German Riesling Tasting

On March 13th, we celebrate Riesling Day – with an in-depth tasting of Germany’s most expressive grape.

Riesling is like a window into the world of wine.

It shows us everything that is in the terroir and climate without distorting the image of the grape. From the steep slate mountainsides of the Mosel to the sunny slopes of the Palatinate, Riesling shows incredible precision and can be stored for a long time, something that few other white wines can do.

This evening we will taste five different Riesling wines from different parts of Germany and with different styles - from dry to semi-dry and with residual sweetness. This will show us how climate, soil and regulations affect the appearance of the wine in the glass.

We also take a closer look at the regulatory systems that exist:

The VDP classification, which is Germany's system for assessing the quality of wine, from Gutswein to Große Lage

The Prädikat system, which consists of different levels such as Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese

Weingesetz, which is the German wine law and how it relates to the wine's origin and must weight

This is a tasting for anyone who wants to learn more about German wine, how it is structured and balanced - but also for anyone who loves Riesling and wants to discover more about it.
