Zürich’s 169 West wins Sustainable Wine List of Switzerland 2025
The award for sustainability at Star Wine List of the Year Switzerland 2025 has gone to natural wine bar 169 West, as announced in Zürich this week.
Opened in 2017, 169 West is a wine and coffee bar in Zürich’s District 3 with a resolute commitment to sustainability, championing natural wines and serving local, seasonal produce. At an awards ceremony to announce the winners of our Swiss wine list competition for this year, owner Kai Keong Ng was presented with a Gold Star for Sustainable Wine List, a category sponsored by Château Galoupet.
“Indisputable quality makes supporting this sustainable approach easy for any wine drinker,” said judge Nina Jensen of the jury’s decision. “Clear and uncompromising in its curation, this list also creates a playful, captivating vibe impossible not to be charmed by! A great wine program in itself and an admirable ambassador for the category.”
The team will now face their fellow Sustainable Wine List winners from across the world in the Star Wine List of the Year International Final 2025, to be held in Vienna this June.

The jury panel for Star Wine List of the Year Switzerland 2025 comprised three top sommeliers:
• Bertrand Lutaud – Master Sommelier and Star Wine List's Geneva Ambassador
• Nina Jensen – Second-Best Sommelier of the World, 2019 and 2023 (ASI)
• Reeze Choi – Third-Best Sommelier of the World 2023 (ASI)
Categories and criteria
Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.
The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.
The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
