California Stars are assigned to restaurants across Europe with good representations of wine from the Golden State. An initiative between Star Wine List and the California Wine Institute, we accept applications on a rolling basis – submit your wine list today to be featured in our guides and receive a host of benefits for your team.
Star Wine List and the California Wine Institute have teamed up to create an exciting programme designed to champion the wines of California – and to promote the European restaurants with strong selections of these world-class wines.
Does your wine list have what it takes to become a California Star?
Your wine list will be assessed by our team and, if approved, you will be granted One, Two, or Three-Star status. This means inclusion in the California Stars sections of the Star Wine List platform, plus extra promotion through social media campaigns. Your staff will also be eligible for Capstone training (level dependent on star status).
If your wine list features a strong selection of Californian wines, let us know. Venues with up to 10 examples will be eligible for One Star, while those with 11-50 can apply for Two Stars; those with over 50 can qualify for Three Stars.

Star levels and restaurant benefits
California 1 Star
Up to 10 wines of California listed
– Free restaurant listing on the California Stars section of Star Wine List. If the restaurant or wine bar is not already listed elsewhere on Star Wine List, they will also be considered for White or Red Star status, subject to approval.
– Free Capstone California Level 1 course for staff (equivalent value: €75 p.p.).
– A social media promotional campaign driving traffic to the California Stars restaurants from the Star Wine List website.
California 2 Star
10-50 wines of California listed
All the above, plus:
– Free Capstone California Level 2 course for staff (equivalent value: €200 p.p.)
– Heightened social media campaigns.
California 3 Star
Over 50 wines of California listed
All the above, plus:
– Free Capstone California Level 3 course staff (equivalent value: €575 p.p.)
– Restaurants can apply for a special influencer promotion, including an in-person restaurant visit, followed by social media coverage by a leading wine and food influencer (25,000+ followers; to opt in, the restaurant must cover the cost of a meal for two). These social media posts will be supported by additional advertising investment to boost influencers’ reach, increasing traffic to each restaurant’s profile page on Star Wine List’s website.
