Superiore, San Fereolo, 2013Nicoletta Bocca has been at the helm of San Fereolo since 1992 and has become a master of the Valdibà subzone in Dogliani. Dogliani is home to some of the most complex expressions of Dolcetto, the "little sweet one." While its name can be misleading because Dolcetto is decidedly dry, this wine shines with dark, rich fruit and a soft, earthy finish. Nicoletta's vines date back to 1935, her youngest are from 1978, translating to spellbinding aromatics and minerality. We recommend drinking it like the Piedmontese would: as an opening act with antipasti while waiting for a fine Barolo or Barbaresco to breathe or passed around the table during casual everyday family meals.112

Dogliani. Dolcetto d'Alba is generally more delicate and perfumed than the intense and concentrated version from Dogliani. While the use of oak, has been attempted over the years, the best Dolcettos are the pure, oak-free, early-drinking styles with their vibrant fruit, San Fereolo, Langhe Rosso '1593', 2010, 125
