About Zum Grünen Gaul
Zum Grünen Gaul is a lovely, cosy and rustic wine bar located in the heart of Bochum in the “Ruhrgebiet”, created by Five and Franz Ferdinand - the owners of the Livingroom. Zum Grünen Gaul means "The Green Horse” and the interior is modern and chic, but still not too ostentatious.
The dark colors and the dimmed light create a cosy atmosphere. The food served in the bar is local, organic German dishes in a bar format – what we love to call German soul food!
About the Zum Grünen Gaul Wine List
The wine list focuses on German and French wines, most organic or biodynamic. Tibor Werzl, the Group Sommelier, tries not to list too many producers, instead he is focusing on multiple vintages of each vineyard. Prices are very fair so that guests can feel comfortable drinking a bottle or two.
For example, you will find Clos Rougeard listed with depth in vintages at a very affordable price point. And this is not in Loire, but in Bochum! This wine bar is one of the best kept secrets of the German wine scene.
