Emma Ziemann, Swedish Sommelier champion 2018 about the restaurant Atelier at Hotel Pigalle in Gothenburg: "I am fond of Art Nouveau... This is a place I go to with my friends who are not wine nerds. The wine list has a lot of things, some straight-up good wines and some gems so that everyone finds something they like. It's a fun decor and you can drink cocktails! It's a place to relax at and just have a good time."
Atelier Pigalle is temporarily closed.

Angeli opened its doors in the spring of 2022 by the team running Bar La Lune next door. Now, Bar La Lune has become more of a restaurant, and Angeli is the wine bar. And yes, here they have created the perfect slip-in-for-a-bottle-of-wine place. Crowded, lively, charming. The room is dominated by a wall of wine coolers and a large wooden table in the middle of the room, where around ten people can squeeze together. The wine list has an impressive breadth in terms of origin, styles and vintage depth, and it is also very nicely priced – which makes up for the somewhat modest selection of wine...

In a tiny space off Aschebergsgatan in Gothenburg that used to host a dog hairdresser, Oskar Ahlvin opened the wine bar/restaurant Bar La Lune. In summer you can hope for a seat at the terrace. With the opening of the sister space Angeli, Bar La Lune is turning more into a restaurant with Angeli taking care of the aperos.

Restaurant Bulot by the Norra Hamngatan canal in central Gothenburg is the restaurant sibling of the wine bar in Saluhallen. A la carte and set menus are served in a modern casual environment, and we were very impressed by the tasty and creative takes on classic west coast seafood like mackerel. Wine-wise, the Bulot wine list is a good read, varied and dominated by France but you'll find wines from further away as well. There is also a bar section and a few seats outside when the season and weather permits.

The group including restaurant Natur and others opened Brasserie Lavette during 2020 and we’re happy they have weathered the pandemic. The outdoor terrace is a plus in summer and the location near Korsvägen is well placed if you’re heading to the major arenas in the area. Lavette is open for lunch and dinner all days of the week, with a brunch menu during weekends. The kitchen highlights seafood and grill and draws inspiration from Paris and New York. On the wine list too, you can find quite a few French and American wines, all the way up to US royalty like Ridge Montebello.

Emma Wennberg (front of house) and Mathias Graner (chef) have created Odette, a small French bistro in the Linné area of Gothenburg. Of course you’ll find French music and French art on the walls, but the food serves up a tastier use of spices than you’ll find in most Paris bistros. We like it a lot. The ambiance is welcoming and professional, with plenty of wine-knowledge. The wine list is great but we’re happy to let the team choose our wines by the glass.

Niche Wine List Of The Year Nordic 2019
The Champagne bar Kyrkogatan 13 imports their own champagnes which means you can find a unique selection of grower champagnes here, but you will also find grandes marques, and other types of wines. The champagne bar, formerly known as Forssén & Öberg, is one of the Gothenburg favourites of Swedish sommelier champion Emma Ziemann 2018: "It is a magical place to go after work, for an apéro or for a drink on the way home. It is a really good champagne bar with a cosy courtyard, what could go wrong?"

Hotel and restaurant Dorsia in Gothenburg is like a world of its own, drenched in gold, velvet curtains and Belle Époque-style. The restaurant is spacious and international. For both travelers and locals, Dorsia is a place to meet at any time of day. In summer, the bistro is open in the courtyard.

Fiskekrogen is a classic in central Göteborg. Seafood has been served here since 1972 and the dining room is grand, with large windows facing Lilla torget and the main harbour canal. The current version of Fiskekrogen is popular and god knows how how many kilos of shellfish plateaus are carried from the kitchen each day. Get a seat in the dining room or in the bars and enjoy the show. If you like wine with your fish, and of course you do, you are in for a treat. The Champagne offer is very solid, as is the Chablis, Puligny and Chassagne sections. Germany and US drinkers get their fix too. On...

Koka is one of Sweden’s best restaurants with a star from the Michelin guide and top ratings from White guide. Moreover, Koka has a solid wine heritage from Kock & Vin which the restaurant used to be called. Owner and wine lover Björn Persson has kept many classics in the cellar and on the wine list, such as mature vintages from Bordeaux, Rhone and Piedmont, but more modern and edgy wines can often be found in the wine pairings. The restaurant also has a direct import from Domaine Michel Magnien in Burgundy.

Trattoria La Strega is an Italian living room in the middle of Gothenburg. Rustic, relaxed and genuine, it is a favourite among chefs and sommeliers. As in Italy, produce takes centre stage here. Sommelier Andrea Consonni and his wife and chef Nina Rydqvist create a lovely northern Italian restaurant in Gothenburg.

Mestiza means mix and it’s Mariuxi Ingber Robles who mixes up international cuisines to create the tasty mid-sized dishes. Her partner Kiki Ingber runs the mostly natural beverage program. You will not find a wine list here, but you can browse the shelves to see what they have. The ambiance is casual and lively, especially during summer when the service pours out onto the Skanstorget pavement.

Sankt Jörgen Park is an upscale hotel and spa resort on Hisingen, about 15 minutes from central Gothenburg. Here you can relax next to outdoor and indoor pools and enjoy several restaurants and bars. A golf course is just next door. Victor Fuentes Quezada, one of the top sommeliers of the city, has been given carte blanche with the wines. This has resulted in a varied and eclectic wine list and a plot of solaris grapes planted on the front lawn slope. We look forward to coming back to try the house wine.

Sjömagasinet is one of the most classical seafood restaurants on the west coast. It's beautifully located on the docks in the harbor, and in summer you'll do well to get a table outside. Although it no longer has a michelin star or has a massive wine cellar like before, we still like coming here.

Top chef Stefan Karlsson has created a warm and cosy fine dining restaurant, rewarded with a Michelin star. This charming place in Majorna in Gothenburg serves tapas-style dishes in a Spanish style with influences from both Sweden and France. Apart from smaller snacks like charcuterie and bread with aioli, the dishes of the day are listed on the blackboard. The service is relaxed and homely, yet attentive and knowledgable. In short, a great spot for some snacks and a glass of wine – or a full dinner and some bottles.

Vilda at Vasagatan in Gothenburg opened in December 2021. The food menu and interior reflect the Nordic nature, and the food is made from wild, local and sustainably produced ingredients in season. The interior is austere and light, with a lot of wood. The food is served as five- or seven-course tasting menus, but there is also an à la carte menu in the wine bar. You will find plenty of good stuff on the wine list, mainly from France, but also some bottles from Spain, Italy and Portugal. There are around 35 wines to choose from by the glass, and the prices – both by the glass and bottle – are...

Vinbaren, close to Grönsakstorget, might not be the place for those who want to drink rarities and exclusive icon wines. But the welcoming charm and the delightfully upbeat atmosphere makes it perfect as an after-work-spot or the start of a fun night out with a larger group. The interior combines modern with rustic, with small round wooden tables and a long counter bar in white marble. The food menu focuses on the Mediterranean, with dishes like Patatas Bravas, Tartar Nicoise and Chèvre Chaud. There is also a nice selection of charcuterie and cheese for those who just want a small bite. The...

Ulf Wagner is a living legend on the Gothenburg fine dining scene. Both a restaurateur and serious wine lover (and collector), Mr Wagner is offering a classic service with table cloth at his latest bistro, Wagners. The food is fairly classic too, both tasty and wine friendly. The wine list has a serious weight of Burgundy of both colours, along with Bordeaux, Rhône and other French regions. (Although friends of Italy and the US will not be unhappy).

Original Wine List of the Year Sweden 2019
Wine Mechanics is the first urban winery in Gothenburg and besides that a winery restaurant, pub, wine bar and meeting place in the Slakthuset-area in east Gothenburg. The winery’s own wines are made from grapes trucked from European growing areas and you can also find an ambitious wine list packed with wines from many countries. However, the top spots on the Wine Mechanics wine list are held for Pfalz and northern Rhone.
