Star Wine List rewards top wine lists

Star Wine List rewards Sweden’s best wine lists with the new competition Star Wine List of the Year. The winners will be selected by a jury but sommeliers and wine lovers will also be able to vote for their own favourites. The awards will be presented during the Swedish Sommelier Championship 6 May 2018.

“We started Star Wine List to celebrate great wine bars and wine restaurants and today we guide wine lovers to nearly 100 wine venues in Sweden. With Star Wine List of the Year we want to recognize the best wine lists and the work that went into them,” says Mr Krister Bengtsson, founder Star Wine List.

Star Wine List will be awarded to the best wine lists across a number of categories, among them Star Wine List of the Year; By the Glass Wine List of the Year; Short Wine List of the Year and others – see below.

The jury: Mischa Billing, Mark Andrew MW, Per Styregård, Erika Lindström and Krister Bengtsson.

Every wine venue that is listed with an updated wine list on Star Wine List is automatically entered into the competition. All wine bars and restaurants in Sweden are welcome to enter the competition free of charge – by sending their info and wine list to info@starwinelist.com.

Times and deadlines
Venues must enter before 6 April 2018 at noon.
The nominations in each category will be made public on this site 24 April.
The rewards in form of diplomas will be given out the 6 May during the Swedish Sommelier Championships.

There are 9 categories
– Star Wine List of the Year
– Short Wine List of the Year (fewer than 200 wines)
– By the Glass Wine List of the Year
– Vintage Wine List of the Year – presented by Gaggenau
– Italy Wine list of the Year
– Austria Wine list of the Year – presented by Austrian Wine
– Germany Wine list of the Year – presented by Wines of Germany
– Winelovers’ Choice
– Sommeliers’ Choice

The first seven categories are decided by the jury vote alone.
The last two are decided by users of Star Wine List and sommeliers, respectively, read more below.

Venues on Star Wine List or venues that enter the competition separately are in the running for all categories, free of charge.

Sommeliers’ Star Wine List of the Year
Besides the categories above, this is a recognition based on the votes by all sommeliers at venues listed by Star Wine List.

Wine Lovers’ Star Wine List of the Year
Besides the categories above, this is a recognition based on the votes by all wine lovers. All wine lovers are welcome to vote for their favourite Swedish wine list here.

Prizes
At least five wine venues will be nominated in each category. The prize is a diploma in the value of a Gold Star (for the winner) and Silver Star (for the other nominees).

Wine lists
Only wine lists updated no later than Feb 2018 will be considered. For nominated categories, Star Wine List will perform checks that wines listed are also available, either by live visit or video call. If such a meeting request is not honoured in a reasonable time, Star Wine List retains the right to remove a nominee from the competition.

Star Wine List
Venues that are not on Star Wine List and enters the competition will be evaluated to enter the guide and agrees to the use of wine lists, images and other info on Star Wine List and that the e-mail address will be receiving the newsletter.

Conflict of interest
If a juror has been in business or employed by a venue during the last three years the juror cannot vote for the venue.
