Sharing Familia Torres’ winemaking legacy through its Private Collection of aged vintages
Familia Torres has launched the second edition of its remarkable Colección Privada, or “Private Collection,” sharing an exclusive set of wines in an array of older vintages, at a minimum of 10 years old.
Designed to show the ageability of its wines, Familia Torres’ first Private Collection launched in 2024.
“These wines are part of our legacy and a living testament to our commitment to excellence,” said President Miguel A. Torres at the time of that first release. “It's exciting to now be able to enjoy these vintages, for which we predicted great aging potential, and to see that time has proven us right. They are wines of great complexity that have evolved exceptionally.”
The chosen bottles all come from the family’s private cellar, where they have been carefully aged and stored – in optimum conditions – until the moment of their release. Named Cava Josefa, this cellar is named after Miguel A. Torres’ grandmother and therefore holds special significance for the estate.
The first edition comprised five wines spanning nine vintages from 1989 to 2013, made available – in highly limited quantities – for private clients, collectors, and prestigious restaurateurs. The project will continue with a new set of wines released annually. For this second year, the collection includes four wines across five vintages, from 1995 to 2015.
The idea is not just to exhibit the mesmerising manner in which the Familia Torres wines mature, but the astounding ageing potential of the younger ones, by offering a glimpse of how buyers can expect the wines to develop further into the future.
Private Collection 2025
This year’s exclusive wines include:
Mas La Plana – 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015
The winery’s flagship wine, from the Mas La Plana estate in Penedès DO. Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines planted in the mid-sixties, it gained international recognition early on after winning Gault-Millau’s 1979 ‘Wine Olympics’ in Paris with its first vintage.
Grans Muralles – 2005 (magnum), 2010, 2015
The first wine made using ancestral varieties recovered by Familia Torres, a project started by Miguel A. Torres in the eighties. Today’s wine is a blend of five grapes, including the ancestral Garró and Querol, from Conca de Barberà DO.
Milmanda – 2010, 2015
A well-respected Chardonnay from grapes hand-harvest on the Milmanda estate, in Conca de Barberà DO.
Reserva Real – 2010, 2015
A limited-production wine containing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from a small vineyard in Penedès DO that is distinctive for its slate soils.
A unique experience
All of these bottles retain their original labels, with each one presented in an individual, wax-sealed dark wooden case clearly announcing the re-release date for absolute clarity – as well as confirmation of the wines’ authenticity. For an extra luxurious touch, the 2015 wines will be presented in a custom-made, wax-sealed, six-bottle wooden box.
“A cellar reveals its soul through the treasures it guards,” the team says, “and these vintages are true gems. The moment has come to share part of Familia Torres’ winemaking legacy and release some of these remarkable old vintages, aimed at collectors, fine dining establishments, and specialty retailers.”
