Rasmus Lunkov Marquart is the best sommelier in Denmark. On Tuesday, 1 September, he won the ASI Best Sommelier of Denmark 2020 in Copenhagen.

The Danish sommelier championship was held with corona-permitting distance at Axelborg, part of Tivoli in Copenhagen. Nearly 200 people were in attendance and the ambiance was high on being able to get back together again – helped by a number of wines to taste from the Danish sommelier association’s sponsors.

After the initial theory and tasting tests in the morning, the 16 candidates were cut down to three finalists: Jonathan Gouveia from Ti Trin Ned, Ketil Sauer from Bar'Vin and Rasmus Lunkov Marquart from Lyst. They had to perform a number of practical tests on stage to a number of guests, such as choosing a champagne for a birthday, pairing of wines to a tasting menu and serving wine on time.

After a long day of competitions, Rasmus Lunkov Marquart – who also is Star Wine List’s ambassador in Denmark – was crowned the winner.
