About The Harbor House inn
Located at what feels like the end of the world, amid the sleepy Redwoods at the far end of Anderson Valley is one of America’s greatest dining, hospitality, and wine destinations: The Harbor House Inn. Located in the tiny seaside hamlet of Elk (population: 599), the Inn is a lovingly updated redwood structure built by the now-defunct Goodyear Redwood Company in 1916. The Inn, plus the adjacent buildings, only have ten rooms, and an incredible view of the California Coast. They’re all decorated in a high rustic style befitting the venue. Staying overnight is an intimate, magical way to experience California’s North Coast, the final slice of Steinbeck-ian California.
Managed by Chef Matthew Kamm, the restaurant has been awarded two Michelin-stars since 2021, and focuses on the produce of the north coast farmers, fishermen, and foragers presented in an unadorned, but highly technical style that really celebrates the local ingredients. The cellar at Harbor house makes a serious investment in Champagne, but celebrates great farming-focused producers found around the world. In particular, they highlight the wines of the Anderson Valley, just immediately to the east. While any meal at Harbor House is an event, be sure to try book a room so you can experience breakfast and lunch as well.
