Take a seat at Épernay’s popular watering hole, Sacré Bistro - where the locals go - and you’ll never want to leave. It has a youthful flair and no-fuss order but don’t let this fool you; there’s a serious wine list on offer that will satisfy almost every palate. Choose wine by the glass or bottle from an impressive list and snack on delicious tapas like tempura de poulet and rillettes de crabe or lunch from a more substantial casual menu.
The wine program focuses on local Champagne growers, especially those who are committed to an organic pathway, highlighting producers who ‘transmit the soul and love for their terroir through their wines.’ The selection of champagnes from the Vallée de la Marne has been especially well considered and it’s nice to see some representation from the lesser-understood, Coteaux Sud d’Epernay. There’s also a solid list of Coteaux Champenois representing leading producers of still wines from all over Champagne.
Other French wines are chosen in a similar vein, exploring lesser-known winegrowers making vibrant and exciting wines, but also representing good value for money. Épernay is relatively limited when it comes to good options for food and wine, but this one won't ever disappoint.
