Its impressive collection of older vintages from Saumur’s leading producers – along with bottles from the Loire and many other French regions – has earned the place national recognition. The classical, unpretentious cuisine, structured around fixed-priced menus, is paired with skill by a team of sommeliers who can draw from an exceptional selection of more than 40 wines available by the glass.
True to its name, the restaurant sits in the very heart of Saumur’s Old Town, on a pedestrian square beside the Saint-Pierre church. The plaza’s blend of medieval, Renaissance and classical architecture, its pavestones and half-timbered houses, all contribute to the charm of this social and gastronomic hub, with Le Bistrot standing proudly at its centre.
