Hotell Borgholm, located in the central part of Borgholm, is one of the most renowned restaurants in Sweden. In 2022 they turned 50 (!) years old. Hotell Borgholm was up until 2019 run by Karin & Owe Fransson. Karin was the head chef, while Owe built one of the largest collections of wine in Sweden with over 1,000 references. In 2019 Karin & Owe retired, and now Christofer Johansson is running the restaurant. He protects the legacy of Karin & Owe but has also put a more modern touch on the establishment, both with the interior and in the style of cooking. At Hotell Borgholm, you can choose t...

PM & Vänner is a gastronomy hotel, an ambitious bistro and a gourmet resturant where Småland meets France. There is also the bakery and its rooftop bar TAK where you'll find cocktails and views. PM & Vänner has swept our wine list competition several times and it is indeed one of the best food & wine destinations in Scandinavia.

Operakällaren in Stockholm’s Opera House is probably the most beautiful dining room in Sweden. And the service is like a scene from the Opera stage, professional, classic and warm. The menu has shifted with the arrival of the chefs from 2-star Aloë, less classical French and more Asian influences have arrived at the scene.

The grandest hotel in the city also boasts one of the grandest wine cellars, including a bottle from the year the hotel opened, 1874. The wine list is massive and accessible in the hotel’s classic Veranda restaurant and Cadier bar, as well as in the Mathias Dahlgren restaurants Seafood Gastro and Matbaren.

Farang takes guests on a journey to Southeast Asian cuisines. The restaurant is located in an old factory hall and the rustic backdrop contrasts with the warm atmosphere. The restaurant is decidedly high end - great food. The bar in the front is cool and serves simpler dishes. For a fine dining lunch experience, this is one of my main choices in Stockholm.

    Address: Birger Jarlsgatan 112, Stockholm

Wine bar and restaurant E & G (short for Egon and Gösen) is located at Birger Jarlsgatan in Stockholm, a few minute’s walk from the crowded neighbourhoods around Odengatan. The place is relaxed, like a living room away from home. The food is rustic and tasty and made for sharing – snacks, smaller dishes and stews. Small, intimate and cosy and with an interior where wine is, literally, all around you.

By the Glass List of the Year Sweden, presented by Riedel 2025

Restaurateur Daniel Crespi and his gastronomic team have always held the banner of creativity high in their neighbourhood in Old Town, Stockholm. New restaurants and concepts have come and gone in a steady stream over the years, but now they have instead chosen one main focus, and in September they re-opened Restaurant Leijontornet after 13 years. (This replaces the famous restaurant of theirs: Djuret) The food is first class and so obviously made with the wine in focus, with dishes such as duck liver minced quail, double breaded Cotoletta Milanese and fried turbot. Generous and with depth in...
