About Vita Lente
After years of experience in the wine world, at various famous and Michelin-starred establishments (including his own), sommelier Simon Witmaar started a lovely, warm, low-key wine-cocktail-snack bar in Amsterdam’s Oud-West neighbourhood. Only a few minutes walk from the famous Vondelpark, the Jan Pieter Heijestraat is one of the city’s up-and-coming foodie streets – it has a sourdough bakery, a craft beer shop, a few coffee joints, a promising restaurant and now, also, a great wine spot.
What a great find! This corner location, so well decorated, is warm but refined, polished but not overwhelming or decadent – just right. Simon has a great selection of snacks and cocktails (his chef was turned out to be a fantastic talent in the kitchen of his Michelin-starred Coulisse restaurant, now closed) and, through his former restaurant network, he has access to a great selection of artisanal, sought-after producers. At decent prices, we must add. Great stemware, good temperatures, lovely personal service – a great addition to this neighbourhood, and to the city.
