Address: Megalou Alexandrou 57, Athina
A wonderful and classy restaurant, located in the Metaxourgio area, that definitely deserves a Michelin star. The owner Nikiforos Kechadiadakis, together with famous Greek chef Gikas Xenakis and the general manager and Head Sommelier Stathis Tsokos, pairs Greek ingredients and flavours with local and international wines in a fabulous way. This beautiful old mansion is really worth a visit, both for the high-end gastronomic experience and the place itself. A plus is that you can bring your own bottle for a reasonable corkage fee.

Address: Leoforos Posidonos 4, Vouliagmeni
If you're really serious about eating great fish then head down the Athenian Riviera to George Economides' BlueFish, a contemporary seafood taverna par excellence. Unlike their more casual outpost in central Athens, the Vouliagmeni site overlooks the Aegean (at the best tables you might literally get your feet wet) and now that Yiannis Karakasis MW is selecting the wine list, you're guaranteed to drink well too.

Address: Polidefkous 39, Pireas
In the most unexpected area, away from the centre of Athens, in an old warehouse in Piraeus, Giannis Kaimenakis created his vision of a hybrid wine restaurant named Paleo. His main focus is wines from Italy, Spain, France and Greece which can be paired with a short but tasty list of dishes. This is a very relaxed place, with no loud music, no smoke and plenty of space. A perfect wine-place for a casual night out!

Down by the waterfront in Piraeus, the seafood at Varoulko Seaside in Piraeus is second to none, with the creative flourishes and attentive service that you'd expect from the flagship restaurant of renowned Michelin-starred chef Lefteris Lazarou.

Vinoterra started as a wine retail store, but then expanded next door, creating a restaurant with a short and wine-friendly menu. It's located in a northern suburb of Athens, Heraklion, and here you'll find a wide range of wines at a very reasonable price point.
