Star Wine List of the Year New York 2025 was hosted on 5 May at Monterey restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, with Koloman taking the Gold Star for Best Medium-Sized List in the wider metropolitan area.

Located in the Ace Hotel, Koloman Restaurant blends modern French cuisine with Viennese cafe culture. Its beverage team accepted the Gold Star for Best Medium-Sized List from Star Wine List’s Founder and Publisher, Krister Bengtsson, in a category sponsored by Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné.

“The medium-sized list is the field where a confident point of view and palate makes all the difference,” explained judge Stephen Wong MW. “Unlike the tight edits of a small list or the expansive collections of a large list, here, every wine needs to have a reason to belong but also needs to make sense against the rest of the collection – building upon the whole in unison. This list takes a modern view, expertly navigating new-wave European wine with the assuredness of an insider. Delicious to the last drop.”

Koloman now goes on to compete in the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, which take place in Vienna this June.

Categories and criteria

Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.

The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.

The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
