Livio Sassetti, "Pertimali", 2019For more than four generations, the Sassetti family has farmed some of the most prized vineyards in Montalcino. In 1967, Livio Sassetti was among the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino, the very year the DOCG system was born. Just a decade later, he established the Pertimali estate on Montosoli hill, today considered one of the appellation's most legendary crus. The 2019 Brunello captures the essence of Montosoli: vibrant red cherry, plum, and dried rose layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, and a distinctive mineral edge drawn from soils rich in marine fossils. Farmed organically and harvested by hand, the wine shows remarkable freshness and balance, framed by fine tannins and a long, classical finish. A benchmark Brunello rooted in history, and one that will reward both patience in the cellar and enjoyment at the table.166
