Sunday Vinyl is the wine bar you may not have known you needed. But once you walk through the doors, it’s abundantly clear that this cosy, comfortable space is exactly what the (wine) doctor ordered. It’s impossible not to notice the incredible sound system – a centrepiece at the back of the restaurant – or the walls of vinyl records all awaiting their spot on the turntables. Named after owner and Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey’s tradition of spending Sundays drinking wine and listening to old-school vinyl records with his wife, you’ll feel like you might have stumbled into their living room on any given Sunday. They even go as far as to make their playlists available on Spotify.
Don’t let the décor, music, and ambiance distract you from their real strength… the thoughtful, sommelier-curated wine list. The program is clearly a love letter to the wine drinking community. While I typically struggle to find the one or two wines worth drinking on a by-the-glass menu, Sunday Vinyl offers the converse problem – I struggle to choose between so many incredible options. Since you can’t drink them all (well, you can, but that might be ill advised in one sitting), they take things a step further with their ‘Dream Flights.’ These are three half glasses of epic, high-end wines from their cellar reserves, available from opening until the bottles are empty. Trust that the price tag for this ever-changing flight is never even close to the value of the wines in the glass. Want to go rogue? Their sommeliers are always happy to curate a custom flight of half glasses for you too.
The bottle list is massive and artfully arranged by shape, with categories like “aromatic & textural & rotund,” “neither & either – rose and macerated blends,” and “round & cuddly / ripe & gushy.” Plan to get lost in the list while also losing yourself to the music.
