Margaux Balemans has been named Best Sommelier of Belgium by the Belgian Sommelier Guild.

At a competition held in Ghent on Sunday, 17 November, Margaux beat runners up Vincent Pharazijn and Elizio Masson to become the first female winner of this award in the 21st century so far. The event was held alongside the Star Wine List of the Year Belgium awards, recognising the country's best wine lists – and the people who've created them.

A sommelier at Le Sanglier des Ardennes in Durbuy, Margaux has this year also won the Chaîne de Rôtisseurs’ International Young Sommeliers Competition and Belgium's Young Sommelier Award of Excellence.

Congratulations to all the finalists and semi-finalists who competed on the day.
