About Purple Wine Bar
This huge, modern restaurant in downtown Seattle surely has decent food, but it’s the wine list you come for.
The sommelier team really took their time thinking about the wine bible, writing great texts and descriptions. They say, you come there for the vibe, and you should be able to relax and not be overwhelmed by the wine list; you surely shouldn’t be overwhelmed, but do take your time here – the wine bible is worth a visit in itself with thoughtful insights into wines, grapes and regions. The selection is diverse, though specialises in local (Washington State/Oregon) wines. They have a large array of wines by the glass and, more interestingly, have wine combinations by the glass. So you can have two styles of Oregon Chardonnay to compare, or a Sauv. from Walla Walla compared with Bordeaux. Lots of fun with good picks.
Don’t miss out on the selection of digestives with both traditional European as well as original US choices. After lunch/dinner, or before, do walk to the nearby Pike Place Market for regional fruits, fish, meats and, more importantly, wines at Pike & Western, a shop with a fantastic selection of artisanal US and European wines.
The view over the bay is amazing too, by the way.
