About Cafe Kiem
Café Kiem is just a five-minute walk from the Central Station, on a small street with a few cafés and restaurants close by. It was started by two wine-loving chefs who worked at some of Rotterdam’s finest places (like Très, Renilde and Héroine) before working at de Matroos en het Meisje. After a year they got the chance to open their own restaurant in this lovely part of the city.
Natural wine is their mantra and the wine list is full of hard-to-find gems, from mainly France. The sommelier, Kamiel, is a natural-wine geek with experience at natural wine institutes such as Restaurant Lux and Bar Cult. He is a huge fan of Champagne, the Loire, and wine from the French Alps. The main focus is on wines without any added grams of sulphur, though there are also some wines with a small amount.
The wine is served in Gabriel and Zünd glasses, which makes it a nice place for wine lovers.
“Zoekt en Gij zult vinden” is an old Dutch saying meaning “search and you will find.” This goes for all people who are not into natural wine. There’s something for everyone on their list.
