Sommelierer, ta chansen att bli Chianti Classico-ambassadör
The Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico is looking for its new ambassador among the best sommeliers in Sweden, a role established in 2017 to support the global promotion of the Black Rooster brand through deep knowledge of it. The selection process will begin on December 2 and consist of three stages: an online test, a blind tasting, and an oral exam. Don't wait - the deadline is 26 November.

"Each year, as we monitor international wine markets, we realise how much knowledge and affection there is towards our labels from an expert and qualified audience," says Giovanni Manetti, President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico. "We wanted to honour these professionals and, at the same time, empower them to carry the Black Rooster flag high in their respective markets through a project dedicated to them. We hope that, in the coming years, the number of ambassadors will grow. Therefore, we are very pleased to soon welcome a representative for Sweden, a country that has always shown great interest and passion for Chianti Classico wines, into the ranks of our ambassadors."
The contest is open to sommeliers residing in Sweden who are at least 21 years old and work full-time in the wine industry. Excluded from participation are individuals who work in any capacity for Chianti Classico production businesses, students of professional wine and food schools, and anyone involved in organising the contest. Registration is free, and applications must be submitted by November 26, 2024, through a form available here.
On Monday, December 2, an initial online exam will kick off the selection process. Candidates will be evaluated on their knowledge of the Chianti Classico region, terroirs, history, and labels. The six candidates with the highest scores will move on to the final stages of the competition, which include a blind tasting and an oral exam. The results of the contest will be announced during the award ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
All finalists will be invited to participate in a four-day tour of the Chianti Classico region in February. The winner will receive the title of Chianti Classico Ambassador Sweden 2024, which will require them to protect and promote the Black Rooster brand in their professional activities.
This role will become part of an exclusive international network of fewer than 20 people who have distinguished themselves by their knowledge of Chianti Classico wines and promotion of its culture and history.
The location for the selection is set by the Consorzio on a case-by-case basis, with the aim of identifying figures in various markets around the world. The competition was launched in 2017 with the election of three Chianti Classico Ambassadors from the Canadian provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia. In 2018, the competition was held in Chicago, USA, in 2020 in Germany, and in 2022 in London, UK.
Each year, the Consortium also names Chianti Classico Ambassadors ad honorem, individuals from the wine world who have significantly contributed to the knowledge and fame of Chianti Classico worldwide.
