Nyetimber champions sparkling wine at the 2023 Star Wine List of the Year Finland

Nyetimber has partnered with Star Wine List to present the Best Sparkling Wine List in Finland at the 2023 Star Wine List of the Year Finland. The event is held with the Finnish Sommelier Championship in Helsinki.

The emergence of English sparkling wine has been one of the biggest success stories in wine in the past two decades. From playing a backseat role in the world of wine just 25 years ago, it’s now a must-have on every serious wine list ― a situation that owes a great deal to Nyetimber.

On 22 May, it will be the turn of the Best Sparkling Wine List in Finland.

Nyetimber: A Pioneering English Winery

Founded over 35 years ago, Nyetimber has dedicated itself to producing sparkling wine to rival the world's best ― work that has redefined the tastes and attitudes towards the entire English sparkling wine category. Under the guidance of owner Eric Heerema, and winemakers Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix, Nyetimber has achieved numerous significant milestones.

Nyetimber's unique approach to grape growing and winemaking has led to forward-thinking aspects such as being the first English producer to use 100% estate-grown grapes, release a Demi-Sec, and launching a prestige cuvée. Their attention to detail in crafting wines using the traditional method and extended ageing periods has earned them numerous awards, including Cherie Spriggs being named "Sparkling Winemaker of the Year" at the 2018 International Wine Challenge.

About the 2023 Star Wine List of the Year Finland

Star Wine List of the Year is an international celebration of the great wine lists of the world and the people who create them. “These are awards that celebrate the work of those who work at the very pinnacle of wine,” says Krister Bengtsson, the founder and publisher of Star Wine List.

The first Star Wine List celebration in Finland took place in 2020, and this is the fourth time the competition has been held in Finland.

The event will be judged by a line-up of exceptional judges: Piotr Pietras MS, Julie Dupouy-Young, Jan Konetzki, and Terhi Oksanen-Alén. (Note: Terhi Oksanen-Alén has not scored venues in the Muru group due to personal connections. This is standard procedure for our awards.)

Star Wine List’s Wine List of the Year awards are now the benchmark for wine lists. Other competitions have taken place in the Nordics, South Africa, UK and Australia. The winners in the international categories will qualify for the International Final in June, also to be held in Sweden.

The winners of the 2023 Star Wine List of the Year Finland will be announced on 22 May 2023.

And the winners in the Finnish event will be qualified for the International Final in Stockholm on 19 June 2023.
