In the 1960s, Heitz Wine Cellars was part of the new wave of the Napa Valley, and their sought-after Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was perhaps one of the first "cult" Cabs. Today, Heitz is better known as one of the "old guard" of Napa, hewing to a classic and balanced style of Cabernet that's aged for half of its elevage in large oak ovals and tanks the way it was in decades past. The Heitz family's vision of winemaking spans three generations of dedication to excellence. "We believe that true artistry sometimes requires restraint. We strive for the delicate balance between science and nature's bounty that allows our wines to express the genuine character of the varietal and to reflect their vineyard's unique geography within the Napa Valley".

In the mid-1960s, an agreement was made between Joe Heitz and Tom May to source cabernet sauvignon fruit from May’s small Oakville vineyard for Heitz wines. Ever since 1966, Heitz Cellar has been crafting the now illustrious Martha’s Vineyard cabernet sauvignon, one of our three vineyard-designated cabernet sauvignons.
