Starten av Mandrarossa kommer i slutet av 1950-talet när flera små vinbönder gick samman i kooperativet Settesoli för att stå emot lågkonjunkturen och motverka emigrationen från efterkrigstidens svårt drabbade och fattiga Italien. Småskaligheten och de små producenterna med vitt skilda vingårdar sätter än idag sin prägel på Mandrarossa.
