Ten Minutes by Tractor won Grand Prix and BTG categories in Australia

On Nov. 8, Gourmet Traveller WINE and Star Wine List teamed up to celebrate the great wine lists of Australia and the teams behind them. Ten Minutes by Tractor in Mornington Peninsula was the big winner during the event: the venue won both By The Glass and the prestigious Grand Prix category, recognizing the best overall wine list with over 600 wines.

"Amazing! To receive this level of recognition is huge for us. I feel like the team really deserves to be recognised for the all the risks we take in our selections and our approach. Not only that, it puts our small business and the Mornington Peninsula region on the map within the context of all the fantastic restaurants across Australia. On a personal level, having only worked as a sommelier for six years, it’s an amazing accomplishment for me – a real dream," says Xavier Vigier, head sommelier at Ten Minutes By Tractor.

Xavier describes the philosophy behind the winning wine list is taking the guests on a journey, treating them like family and develop a level of trust:

"For us, it’s about making Ten Minutes by Tractor a wine destination, showcasing a variety of wines from the region and across the world and making them accessible. We are trying to break the habit of overpricing wines that are rare and allocated and offer the same experience to those who simply want to order wines by the glass as those who are happy to order a bottle. Thanks to the Coravin, we are able to offer over 50 wines by the glass," he says.

"A warm and friendly introduction. Excellent by the glass list. Well chosen selection of local and imported wines. I really like the pictures and explanations behind some of the producers. Brings the story to life," says jury member Andrea Pritzker MW about Ten Minutes by Tractor winning the Grand Prix category.

Fellow jury member Arvid Rosengren says:

"To win this category, you, of course, have to have width and depth. The selection here is excellent, but what really made them stand out is that they are a producer restaurant and still have such a vast selection. Secondly, there's a real sense of warmth and welcoming in this list that comes through the page. That is great to see in this category."

The by the glass program is a way to showcase all the wines that we love, whether it’s Ravenau or local Australian producers. We just want everyone to be able to enjoy all the wines," says Xavier Vigier.

"A thoroughly comprehensive list offering a wide range of both locally produced wines from the Mornington Peninsula and Australia, as well as iconic back-vintage selections from Australia and the world.
