The Glue Pot Wine List
About The Glue Pot
If there was ever a French version of a well-worn British pub, then this would have to be it. The Glue Pot is a bona fide institution in the Champagne region, a popular watering hole that appeals as much to the locals as it does to an international audience; it is a cultural melting pot that unites people on one front – wine.
Since 1970 it’s been offering a wine list by the glass and bottle that can only be measured by depth or breath because it’s so extensive. What you’re presented with on that list is just the start: owner Stephane Arion also has a secret list that takes you further down the rabbit hole into a place of uncommon treasures.
The list is eclectic, comprising a mix of Stephane’s personal favourites, and heavily featuring excellent and rare grower Champagnes. You’ll also find a good range of Burgundy that offers both affordable and higher-end options. Beyond Burgundy and Champagne, there’s not much else unless your preference is for beer and ciders.
The food menu blends together fairly standard pub-style fare with proudly homemade French bistro options. Portion sizes are massive, so take care not to overindulge. The traditional steak tartare is probably your best bet. A visit to Champagne never feels complete without having at least one drink at The Glue Pot – a place immortalised by people, place and wine.
