About Red & White
For over 15 years, Red & White has been a lighthouse of the natural wine movement in Chicago, so much so as to be a leader in the creation of Chicago’s natural wine fair, Third Coast Soif, every spring.
The original corner store has expanded into a bright, airy wine bar featuring a delightful array of cheeses, tinned fish, and seasonal snacks designed for wine-drinking, plus a couple of killer sandwiches. The wine shop is fun to wander, and they’ll open anything you purchase for drinking at the bar-side.
Stylistically, they are proud (bordering on devout) pennant wavers for ‘natural wines’ – non-interventionist, über-modern, etc. – and they have cultivated that style impeccably well. They bring in all sorts of fascinating treats from artisans all over the world – I never cease to be surprised by something every time I visit.
That said, if you’re not on ‘Team Natural’ (as admittedly, I am decidedly not), you may have to work to look for something for a more classical palate. To their highest credit, their staff is skilled, savvy, and friendly enough to assist in navigating the stacks to find treasure for whatever level of wine nerd you might be.
