You find Maya just a stone’s through from Gustav Adolfs Torg in Malmö. The restaurant is simple but inviting and is shared with the bar Cuccurucucu (operated by the importers and cidermakers at Vinstereo/Fruktstereo), which lies a floor above the restaurant.
The kitchen is authentically Mexican, down to the roots of owner Gonzalo. The dishes are best described as finely tuned Mexican street food for a reasonable price. The tortillas are made fresh daily, and all in all, the experience at Maya feels just like you’re enjoying a small part of Mexico but in the quiet calm of Malmö.
As for the wine list, it is predominantly focused on natural wine, where one can find a few rare examples of bottles – much thanks to the tight collab with Vinstereo. If one prefers more classic wines, there are a few well-curated bottles to choose from as well. For spirits, the bar revolves around tequila and mezcal, as it should.
