Lamaii Wine List
About Lamaii
Lamaii, located in the first few blocks of Las Vegas' Chinatown has long been a staple for exceptional food along with very generously priced wines. The restaurant is one of three similar concepts within a group that includes Lamoon and Lamaii Henderson. It highlights the regional foods of Thailand in a casual yet elegant environment and is certainly an ‘in the know’ kind of place – if you are driving by, you would certainly miss it tucked, as it is, away in the corner. Not to be missed are the duck panang and the crispy prawns. The menu changes frequently, but is supported by favourites that you can always count on.
Since spice and heat are a primary concern when pairing Thai food with wine, Lamaii craftily focuses on wines high in acid and certainly plentiful in sugar for the Riesling list. Bon Atcharawan, owner and sommelier, has a beautiful selection of great value wines (sometimes 20% above wholesale price) from very well known Bordeaux, Burgundy and California producers, balanced with the lesser-known and sometimes ‘new kids on the block’ producers. He and his family hail from work at Lotus Of Siam, another not-to-miss Vegas ‘Thai and wine’ spot. The team in the dining room may point you to the virtual sommelier the restaurant uses to offer suggestions, rather than answering specific questions about the wine list; well travelled drinkers would feel right at home navigating the list otherwise. A nice selection of smaller-production beers is there when wine is not preferred, along with a full bar and cocktails.
