Echaurren is living history in Rioja, set within the walls of an old stagecoach post that today houses a Relais & Château hotel. It incorporates a gastronomic restaurant with two Michelin stars (El Portal de Echaurren) and one of the most renowned traditional cuisine tables in the country (Echaurren Tradición). The Paniego siblings – Marisa, Francis and José Félix – keep alive the legacy of their mother, Marisa Sánchez, a grand dame of Riojan cuisine, not only in terms of gastronomy, but also in her particular way of understanding hospitality as a family affair.

To complete this interesting combination of contemporary cuisine and recipes from the past, the award-winning wine cellar has more than 1,000 references that José Félix (known as “Chefe”) looks after together with a team of six sommeliers, who ensure that each customer finds the wine that best suits his or her tastes.

It has labels from all over the country and a wide selection of wines from all over the world, although Rioja naturally has a special place. Chefe buys wines from the most interesting wineries in the area to age them at home, skilfully manages allocations, and keeps a large selection of historical wines for those who wish to travel back in time in this legendary house.
