About Café-Restaurant Terroir
Finally, Utrecht has homey, comfortable restaurant with a true focus on wine. On the border of the city centre on the calm Lange Nieuwstraat is the neighborhood restaurant Terroir. Situated in a historic former living house with light decoration and original ornaments, the place feels warm and friendly. Well done to the bearded owner Wim Rieff (is it necessary to add the word bearded? see him for yourself) and sommelier Julian Klaassen.
For being a young (2021) start-up, the wine list is in progress but already significant and rather diverse. Don’t expect to find expensive icons here, but true-to-type honest wines and interesting finds – a place for the real wine lover, not for collectors or snobs.
Don’t forget about the food: A great selection of nice, well-priced à la carte dishes can be enjoyed. Though young, chef Niels van Meeteren has worked in some serious Michelin kitchens like Spectrum, De Kromme Watergang and Quince, and you can see that in the execution. Vegetables, fish, meat, everything is spot on.
