About Bar Merenda
Nestled in the beautiful countryside of Daylesford, one and a half hours from Melbourne, Bar Merenda is the brainchild of owner-operator Andy Ainsworth, also a winemaker and wine lover who was previously based in Sydney, and who was recognised working for one of the most boutique independent wine importers Andrew Guard Imports, responsible for bringing into Australia wines like Francois Cotat, Pierre Overnoy and Ganevat amongst others. With several years in the game, Andy is able to source rare allocations of iconic wines complemented by a menu with produce sourced from local ethical growers and farmers.
Enjoying a meal there feels like being an aristologist, with surprises coming in the form of aged local Rieslings and whatever Andy decides to open on the day as a special treat. The movement of the food menu and the wines by the glass are in constant ebullition, championing seasonality and a charming narrative to go with it. Awarded Best Wine Bar in October 2023 by Good Food Guide is a testament to the ingenuity of Andy and his team to provide to their patrons a friendly casual dining experience, with flavours matched to perfection in an understated sophisticated execution.
